NOSE CORRECTION
The nose is situated in the middle of the face. This very simple truth makes it obvious that any nose correction is a sensitive and difficult procedure that demands a competent plastic surgeon who is fully trained and able to avoid stereotype nose shaping or results that look too obvious or unnatural.
This is why the pre-operative consultation is of particular importance with nose surgery.
The surgeon provides all the necessary information and explains very clearly the results that can be expected from the procedure to avoid any disappointment. There must be total agreement between the patient and surgeon on the nose correction plan. A nose correction can be performed as of 16 years, when the child is fully grown.
THE PROCEDURE
The procedure can be performed to correct a nose that is too long, too short, too bulbous or too pointed, or to alter the shape of the nose. It takes place under general anesthetic and takes about 1 hour. A correction of the tip of the nose can take place under local anaesthetic.
The patient can usually return home the same day.
The incisions are made inside the nostrils and leave no scars. Through these incisions, the nasal bone structure can be reshaped. At the end of surgery, tampons are inserted in the nostrils and an external bandage (plaster) is applied. The plaster cast is removed after about 10 days. AFTER SURGERY After the operation, you will have no pain. You can suffer the same kind of discomfort when breathing as you do when you have a bad cold. The nose runs and the eyes are swollen for about a week.
The bruising turns yellow before disappearing after about 10 days. In some cases, the nose can remain sensitive and swollen for a while longer. When the plaster cast is removed, your new nose will still be swollen and will gradually take on its final shape over the next year. You will, however, already have a good idea of your new look in about two months.
You should avoid strenuous physical activity for 2 months and the sun for 3 months. Also avoid, if possible, wearing glasses with a heavy frame (this could damage the newly formed bridge of the nose).
IN CONCLUSION
The enhancing effect of a nose correction is spectacular and long-lasting.
It is already visible when the plaster cast is removed, even though the nose still hasnt taken on its final shape.
Most nose corrections are performed between 20 and 40 years, hardly ever after 60 years. By then it is very difficult to accept any changes, even though successful, because your self image is too deep-rooted.
The younger you are, the easier it is to accept such a change.
Nose reshaping will have a dramatic impact on you appearance and will often boost your confidence and self esteem.
Finally, a nose correction is surgery that makes you feel better about yourself both psychologically and emotionally.
