BERD BEFORE 
As far back as I can remember, I have always struggled with my weight.
During my 20’s I managed to keep my weight around 15 stone, vowing to never cross the 16 stone mark. Well, in the year leading up to my 28 th birthday, I gained 2,5 stone and since then my weight has stayed at somewhere between 17,5 and 20 stone. I have been a police officer for the last 15 years. I went to work during the day but stayed at home in the evenings and weekends. I had long stopped socialising and isolated myself out of shame. I would just go home, sit on the couch and watch tv. And that was my life. Some were saying that it’s quite okay for a man to weigh 20 stone, but I still felt very bad about myself. My sister Ingrid (who’s a dietician!), tried hard to help me to follow a proper diet. But even when I had managed, thanks to her, to drop down to 12 stone, I put all the weight back on just as fast. One day, Ingrid introduced me to one of her best friends, who had had surgery 1 year before that enabled her to lose 5 stone in 5 month. She seemed absolutely delighted with the results as she hadn’t regained any weight in the past 8 months. She told me all about the operation and that she didn’t have to go on a diet to lose the 5 stone, and she’d never been hungry. In short, she strongly recommended the procedure as well as the clinic where she had the operation. My mind was made up. One week later I made an appointment at the ELYZEA CLINIC with the surgeon. I had the operation on the 9th of May 2003. I already lost 5 stone in the first six months and by the 18th of February 2004, I had reached my goal: 12,5 stone ! I have never regretted this decision. Gastric Banding is a fantastic method as it has allowed me to lose a lot of weight without dieting. For 6 months I ate something of everything but just much less than before ! For the first time in my life I had lost weight whilst feeling really fit, and without suffering. There, I wanted to tell my story, as requested by my surgeon.
