I’ve been struggling with my weight since I was 12. I was quite plump until I was 18, and then really fat until I had the LAP -BAND fitted.

By the time I reached 17 stone, I had developed diabetes and heart disease.

Of course, I was often able to lose some of the weight (5 years ago I even managed to lose 5 stone), but each time I put more weight back on than I’d lost. I was disheartened and resigned to staying fat for the rest of my life. I’m actually a G.P. myself and the situation with my patients had become untenable: I would talk to them about their weight, about leading a healthier lifestyle and eating a more balanced diet, all while I was sitting there weighing more than 17 stone!
