EYELID CORRECTION - BLEPHAROPLASTY

	Indications
	The aim of eyelid correction/eyelid surgery is to give a tired, puffy and withered look a more youthful and jovial appearance. It is this type of rejuvenation procedure that is first (at about 35 to 40 years old) performed because the eyelids usually show the first signs of ageing. (Sometimes, a person may inherit from his parent�s baggy eyelids. This type of patient responds very well to early intervention). Whether it be to remove bags under the eyes (which makes someone look continually tired), drooping upper eyelids, or to smooth away wrinkles and sagging skin, the main concern of the surgeon is to correct the imperfections without making any change to the overall look. This is vital in reflecting the individual personality of the face and should not be affected in any way.
	Procedure
	The upper eyelid correction consists of retightening the skin by removing a small section of skin in the crease of the eyelid just above the eye and any underlying pockets of fat. The feint scar will run along the crease of the upper eyelid and be totally invisible. The lower eyelid correction consists of the removal of fatty deposits. This is done by going via the connective tissue within the inside of the lower eyelids, thus making no incision at all. Alternatively, an incision is made along the eyelashes, which is barely visible. The surgeon then proceeds to remove any pockets of fat and very carefully tightens any excess skin.

Your Stay

An eyelid correction does not require an overnight stay at the clinic. Thus, it is treated as a day-case. Patients leave the clinic in their own time on the day of the procedure.

Post-op

The recovery of eyelid surgery is straightforward. For two to three days the patient will feel some discomfort and one is unable to read or focus on the computer screen. The bruising and swelling lasts for at least ten days, large sunglasses are therefore very useful.

Resuming Daily Activities

Patients may resume their daily activities after about eight days. Avoid sun exposure for at least one month following the eyelid correction.

Results

The results of eyelid correction are remarkable but will only be fully visible about two to three months after surgery.
