Elasticity of the skin unavoidably
diminishes with age. As the layers
of muscle and skin become thinner,
the upper arms loose
their firmness. Age and sudden weight-loss
can often be the cause of sagging
or flabby upper arms.
Procedure
Liposuction
is almost always carried out prior
to the arm lift,
in order to eliminate the fatty tissue.
During an arm lift,
the incisions are invariably made
along the inner arm up to the armpit.
The skin is separated from the underlying
fat and muscle. Excess skin is then
gently removed.
Anaesthetic
An
arm lift is carried
out under general anaesthetic.
The length of time for an arm lift
depends on the amount of fat and skin to be removed.
Most arm lift procedures take
an average of one hour.
Your Stay
An arm lift does not require
an overnight stay at the clinic. Thus,
it is treated as a day-case. Patients leave
the clinic in their own time on the day
of the procedure.
Post-op
After an arm lift, patients
will have to wear a compressive bandage for seven
days. Bruising and swelling may occur around the
arm area but they generally disappear after
two to three weeks. Slight fatigue may be felt
during the first two days following surgery.
Resuming Daily Activities
We recommend that patients resume their
professional and daily activities after about
two weeks. Do not hesitate to accept help with
household chores (even vacuum cleaning should
be avoided during the first week). We advise patients
to take things very easy and not to lift anything
heavy.
Results
The results of an arm lift
are generally excellent, even if the scarring
on the inner part of the arm (arm pit) still remains
visible. Thereafter, patients can enjoy
wearing sleeveless tops and overall feel much
more confident than before the procedure.
Costs
The price of an arm lift
is £1,600.
